new hair...I need more clayyyyy

Im back...

Kinda fell off the planet as far as this blog goes..but that doesnt mean I havent been busy! Heres something new I've started. Highly inspired from the new Tomb Raider reboot cover article in GameInformer Mag. I already had her look in my head but the magazine has some great reference images for what I needed! Anyway here's her progression so far.. I will update as I get further, have some pretty cool things in mind with the sculpt and the female form is soooo challenging!

Logo project wk4

Been working on this idea for a while and Im finally getting comfortable with where its at! Still some small tweaks to be done but the overall look is there I think... Still have to Do a High Res Render with multiple layers so I can easily tweak things in Post (AE CS5) Plus I'm still planning on adding a camera shake as the second text fractures the ground, to give it extra weight.
If you like this mini version PLEASE
go to my photobucket page >> http://s780.photobucket.com/albums/yy87/jgb777/art/?action=view&current=Spin_logo_full_previewD.flv

Motion Graphics 3D Logo

This bad boy is my final for 2 separate classes. Advanced Lighting and 3D Animation. This was done using Cinema 4D. Pretty amazing program. I honestly cant say enough good things about that software! Anyway its time now for some well deserved sleep as I have gone the past 2 days without it and I highly doubt the average person would consider my last 3 weeks of sleeping habits to be healthy! Oregon here I come for a much needed break and recharge!

Thanks for watching! but really you should watch it here>>

More After Effects goodness

Made a new animation with the same Logo at the end. Looks more professional than my first one so I will be submitting this as my final. And will most likely stick a sick beat on it too!

Again it can be found at MUCH Higher Resolution here>>

Advanced Lighting Midterm

Here's what I submitted for my in-class midterm on Thursday. We were given a bridge scene already modeled, and were told to add a car model to the scene and create all lights and materials for the scene. Then produce a HD render. I'm not very satisfied with it as I was plagued by computer crashes while I was working on this. So I guess its not too bad for having like 5 major crashes or setbacks. I didnt have time to photoshop seattle in the background before i submitted it to my teacher, but figured I better pretty them up a little now that I had some extra time.
I grabbed all the car models my teacher provided so maybe i can get some more practice in on this whole car rendering thing.

a little Predator TLC

Between last night and today I havent been able to keep my hands off of the Wolf. I spent a good hour smoothing many rough areas by hand with a select few paintbrushes and some turpenoid. Before the smoothing out process I actually took every tooth out of his head except the lower mini 4, and replaced them with new baked sculpey. These are more true to the concept I am following for reference. I also spent a good deal of time thinning his mandibles out all over. They where just plain too thick and this was something that became more apparent after I started taking pictures of him. I also have received some critiquing over at the hunters lair by some guys that really know their preds! http://www.thehunterslair.com/index.php?showtopic=15769 if you wanna see it there.

I cant get away from clay. Every day I'm finding out I'm getting more and more excited to be finished with the wolf. First because for the sense of accomplishment, second because I litterally have ideas that I'm afraid are going to escape me. I take notes in my phone when I'm on the go to remind me or try and key my brain back in on an idea. But I also carry a Moleskine mini sketchbook with me almost everywhere I take my backpack, So I've been building ideas in that as well until I can get to them. I have more Predator plans in the future like a full 12 or 13'' tall maquette with armor and weapons and some of their masks, but I need to take a break from them for a bit. My next sculpt or two will be interesting. Cant wait to get started on them!!!!

Predator Progress

Homework is pretty intense this quarter, but I sneak time in wherever I can! He's slowly looking better to me. I'm trying to stick to the look of the original concept sculpts made for the AVP:R movie, but the damage was pretty hard to replicate...atleast for now...so I decided to just go with the flow and do my own version of his battle damage. Also chopping out the original teeth and replacing them HELPED immensely! The teeth and Mandibles are so much more believable now that they are made from baked hard super sculpey. Tore the eyes out as well and threw some baked little orbs in there too. There is still a ton of detail work to get done! However I'm feeling pretty good about my first Predator so far(course I gotta choose one of the hardest to start with)
The Dredds are still temporaries, They will get a some serious TLC :)
Its a funny thing sculpting something. Its such a visual and physical task that I feel like the model is sorta burned into your head. I close my eyes at night sometimes and all I can see is PREDATOR!

Completely addicted to clay...

Sculpting is taking over all my free time! And I love it! I dont know what it is, something about getting messy and creating with my hands...I've always gravitated towards clay. It's just now I'm finally acknowledging it!!

Ok, I'll just come right out and say it.. I'm a major Predator fan. So this sculpt was a must for me and there will be many more I have a feeling!
Here's a work in progress for anyone that may venture past this blog. Using Chavant Oil based.
"The Wolf"

Next is texturing and detailing this bad boy!
